Calvary Chapel Living Water STATEMENT OF DOCTRINE
Romans 10:17 – “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
Acts 2:42 – “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
Phillipians 2:2 – “Fulfill ye my joy, that you be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”
I Peter 3:8 – “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
With adherence to the above verses, we at CALVARY CHAPEL LIVING WATER seek to follow sound doctrine, to be in one accord as a Body of Christ, of one mind, having compassion and love for one another in Christ our Lord.
Our beliefs, as expressed in the following statement, are meant to inform the reader of our biblical positions as a church assembly. We do not seek to divide the Body of Christ. On the contrary, we welcome all true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us unite in our love for the Lord and the blessings of the salvation He has provided.
We do not have a right to believe what we want; because if God had given us that right than God could not judge us for what we believe. Rather, God has given us freedom to believe what we want and along with this freedom comes God’s judgment on error. At the Judgment Seat of Christ, believers will be judged on the doctrines they held (Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 2 Timothy 2:15, Isaiah 8:20).
We invite you to speak with the pastor should you have any reservation or questions about the doctrines expressed herein.
In His Precious Grace
Pastor David
STATEMENT OF DOCTRINE Calvary Chapel Living Water of the Lehigh Valley
WE BELIEVE in all the fundamental doctrines of the evangelical Protestant Church.
We believe both the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired, verbal, plenary and literal Word of God, infallible and without error in the original writings. The Bible, composed of the Old and New Testaments, provides the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men and women individually. These same Scriptures also provide divine guidance for the Christian’s life and faith. (Luke 24:27/44, Romans 15:4, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21,)
We believe in one God, infinitely perfect and holy, eternally existent and subsisting in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26, Matthew 28:18-19, Mark 12:29, John 1:14, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
We believe that God is personal, transcendent, and the sovereign Creator of all things. We believe that God created ex nihilo, from nothing, the universe and all that is therein in six (6) literal 24 hour days. Furthermore, we believe that sin and death entered the world through the agency of Lucifer/Satan and Adam’s knowledgeable decisive choice to disobey God’s injunction against eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Eve was deceived, Adam was not). (Genesis 1:1/31, Exodus 20:11, Romans 5:12, II Corinthians 11:3, I Timothy 2:14)
We believe that Jesus, the Christ/Messiah, is truly and fully God and truly and fully man, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life. This same Jesus, proclaimed King of the Jews, died on the cross a vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice providing atonement for our sins, according to the Scriptures. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where on the right hand of God the Father He is our High Priest and Advocate making intercession for us and waiting for the times to be fulfilled when He will return to earth as He left, King of the Jews. (Luke 1:30-35, John 1:1-2/14-18, Philippians 2:5-8, Matthew 20:28, Romans 3:25-26, II Corinthians 5:14, Hebrews 10:5-14, Hebrews 7:25, I Corinthians 15:20, John 19:19-22, Acts 1:6-11).
After Jesus ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to the believers in Jerusalem enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world. We believe the Holy Spirit’s ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts men of sin, righteousness and judgment. He regenerates the believing sinner and seals the saint so that, though the saint may sin, he can never lose the salvation God has given him. The Holy Spirit indwells the believer equipping him to serve and glorify God. The gifts of the Spirit are to be exercised within the Scriptural guidelines in love so that the Church may be edified and the unbeliever convicted of the truth of the Gospel. (John 14:16-17, John 16:7-15, Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 6:19, Galations 5:16, I Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 2:22, 4:30, 5:18, II Thessalonians 2:7, I John 2:20-27)
We believe that man was created in the image of God. Man sinned and is therefore by nature lost, dead in trespasses and sins, separated from God and responsible for his own sin. Man can receive salvation and spiritual life only by faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ through regeneration by the Holy Spirit. The shed blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide the only basis for justification to those who trust in Jesus for their salvation. This salvation is freely offered to all of mankind. Upon trusting Jesus Christ for salvation, the sinner is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, destined to spend eternity with the Lord. (Genesis 1:26, 2:17, Psalm 14:1-3, 51:5, John 3:6, Romans 3:10-19, 8:6-7, Ephesians 2:1-3, I John 3:8, John 3:36, Leviticus 17:11, Isaiah 64:6, Matthew 26:28, John 3:7-18, Romans 5:6-9, II Corinthians 5:21, Galations 3:13, Ephesians 1:7, Titus 3:5, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, Titus 2:11-14, John 14:1-3, I Corinthians 15:51-52, Philippians 3:20)
We believe in the physical, bodily resurrection of all those who have died. The believers, both Old Testament saints and New Testament saints, will be resurrected to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord. Unbelievers from both the Old Testament and the New Testament time periods will be resurrected to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment. (John 5:26-29, II Timothy 4:1, Luke 13:27-29, Matthew 13:49-50, Hebrews 9:27, II Thessalonians 1:7-9, Luke 16:19-26, 23:42-43)
We believe that the true church or assembly (ecclesia in Greek) is made up of all persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The Church began at Pentecost and will be completed with the Resurrection and Rapture of the Church. (I Thessalonians 4:15-18, I Corinthians 15:51-52)
We believe in the personal, premillennial, pretribulational and imminent (at any moment) return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His Church, the Bride of Christ. This event is often referred to as the Rapture of the Church. After this event the 7 year Tribulation will occur. Then, after the Tribulation, the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth along with His saints will be personal, premillennial and visible. Then the 1000 year Millennium will occur. After the Millennium, the Great White Throne Judgment takes place; then the final state occurs with God creating a new heaven and a new earth. (I Corinthians 15:51-53, Daniel 9:24-27, Revelation 19:11-16, Revelation 20:11-15, Revelation 21:1-6)
We believe that believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age. They are not means of salvation. Baptism is a sign of identification with Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a remembrance memorial of who the Lord Jesus is and what He has done. (Matthew 16:16-18, Acts 2:42-47, Romans 12:5, I Corinthians 11:3, Ephesians 4:3-10, Matthew 28:19, Acts 10:47-48, Acts 16:32-33, Acts 18,7-8, Luke 22: 19-20, I Corinthians 11:23-24)
We pray you are blessed always in God’s Word as you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. And remember to always LOOK UP, for our redemption draws near. (Luke 21:28)
John 7:37-38 If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
