JOSHUA 14:2 - By lot wast their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

The Bible tells us the battle is won, we walk in our Lord's victory, God's promises are for the keeping, BUT there is still work to be done in taking and posessing those promises.  The dividing of the Promised Land in Canaan came by way of casting lots.  The trusted and sure Old Testament practice of God's direction and leading.  Such practice also testified of God's faithfulness as the lots always fell as He had promised and commanded.

Today, we don't cast lots.  We don't pull out those magic 8 balls,  we don't roll the dice, or set forth fleeces of the flesh before God.  Instead we cast our heart before the Lord Jesus in our trust of God's leading and guiding.  In that trust we devote and submit our lives to our loving and sovreign God.  It is because of this trust, we should accept as Christians whatever lot the Lord God has cast for us.  Whether it be a dessert, or watefall, beach or forest, whatever our lot we must treasure it because it comes from God.

King David says in Psl. 16:5 - "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance & of my cup; He maintains my lot ..... & the Apostle Paul says; "for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Eph. 2:10)

We must take and posess our lots in life.  Our spiritual joy and maturity hinges on it.  And as the wonderful hymn declares;  "whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know, it is well with my soul."

Psalm 37:1-5

1Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.4Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

One of my favorite Biblical passages. TRUST, DELIGHT, and COMMIT. A simple exhortation that will bring all belivers into peace and rest with the world. In John 16 our Lord Jesus speaks to the disciples of His pending ascension and concludes by saying in Jhn 16:33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

All our troubles, trials and tribulations in the world are turned to joy because we know the end result. Jesus has conquered sin and death giving the Believer VICTORY! So walking in victory is a matter of TRUSTING in what God has done already for us, and the promises we have in the Word of God. In that trust we should be aspiring to do good for the Kingdom. His Kingdom and not the kingdom of "me." This will keep us tracking with our heart in God's will and purpose and our spiritual appetite shall be satisfied.

As such we should also maintain attitudes of DELIGHT. We delight in the Lord and His promises and victory. Attitudes of defeat, self-loathing, and self-pity will never bring us into a satisfying relationship with our Lord. Delighting in all things will satisfy all desires of our heart as we long for the things of God.

And the Psalmist tells us to COMMIT our ways to the Lord. It's not about us, our abilities, our wants, rights, or happiness. It's about surrender and sacrifice to the Lord's way for our lives. That's the kind of commitment God desires of us. There's an old phrase; "Let go and let God." How much better it is giving God control of our lives and paths of life. Such is the way of "all things working together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

May the Lord grant you much peace and rest as you TRUST in Him, DELIGHT in Him, & COMMIT to His ways, and remember to always look up!
